WordPress maintenance & support

WordPress maintenance for businesses that rely on their website.

PressGuard manages WordPress updates, backups, monitoring and security checks, with practical support when something needs attention. We help keep your website working around the enquiries, bookings and sales your business depends on.

  • Managed WordPress, plugin and theme updates.
  • Daily backups and website availability monitoring.
  • Security checks and help investigating faults.
  • Additional testing and monitoring for more complex websites.

Coverage is matched to your website and chosen maintenance plan.

What your maintenance covers

What we maintain. What we check.

Updates, backups, testing and monitoring each have a different job. Here’s how the work fits together, with additional checks identified by plan.

Every maintenance plan

WordPress, plugins and themes.

We manage software updates and review components that need closer attention. Older plugins, unsupported themes and PHP compatibility can affect how safely changes can be made.

Some components need investigation or replacement before an update is appropriate.

Keep software maintained with compatibility in mind.
Every maintenance plan

Daily backups and recovery planning.

Daily backups provide recovery options when changes or faults affect the website. We review backup arrangements as part of maintaining the site.

Recovery decisions need to consider recent orders, enquiries and content that an older backup might overwrite.

A recovery approach that considers your current data.
Every maintenance plan

Availability and website health.

Uptime monitoring helps identify availability problems. Monthly health checks add a regular review of the website’s condition.

These checks serve different purposes. A website responding normally does not confirm that every form, integration or checkout function works.

Regular oversight of availability and site condition.
Advanced & Commercial

Staging, forms and checkout checks.

Advanced and Commercial Protection include staging update testing and checks on form and checkout functionality. Staging provides a separate setting for testing changes.

These checks help identify faults in the journeys customers use to enquire or buy.

Additional testing around enquiries and transactions.
Advanced & Commercial

Security reviews and deeper inspection.

Advanced includes a security hardening review to identify avoidable weaknesses. Commercial adds enhanced malware inspection and post-incident reinforcement.

The level of investigation and protection increases with the selected plan.

More detailed protection for websites carrying greater risk.
Every maintenance plan

Monthly reporting and ongoing support.

Monthly reporting gives you a record of maintenance activity and website health. You also have a route to ask for help when something needs attention.

Advanced includes a priority support queue. Commercial adds priority handling for critical incidents.

Visibility over the work and a place to turn for support.

Choose the coverage your website needs. See prices and full inclusions for Core, Advanced and Commercial Protection.

Getting started with PressGuard

We learn how your website works before we start changing it.

Who built it, where it lives, and which functions you rely on all matter. Our onboarding brings those details together before routine maintenance begins.

  1. Review the website you actually use.

We review WordPress, plugins, themes, hosting and known faults. We also need to understand what customers must be able to do.

Existing problems may need repair before routine maintenance begins. An old booking plugin, for example, may need closer investigation before it can be updated.

Your part: Tell us about recurring problems, essential functions and anything that has broken before.

  2. Arrange access and understand who controls what.

We establish WordPress, hosting and backup access for the agreed work. Most clients can keep their existing hosting.

If a previous developer controls an account or licence, that needs identifying during the handover. Knowing who owns it helps establish the next step.

Your part: Help identify the account owners and any suppliers already involved with the website.

  3. Set up the agreed maintenance cover.

Backups, monitoring and update arrangements are configured around your selected plan. Advanced and Commercial plans add their relevant testing and protection.

The setup needs to reflect how the website is used. A shop receiving new orders has different recovery considerations from a brochure website.

Your part: Flag busy periods, planned changes and any functions that need particular care.

  4. Keep the work visible and support accessible.

Monthly reports provide visibility over maintenance activity. You can raise concerns through the agreed support route, with priority determined by your plan.

Work outside the agreed cover needs a clear scope and approval before it goes ahead.

Your part: Tell us what happened, which page is affected and when you first noticed it.

Choosing your maintenance plan

How much depends on your website working?

A small website can carry a large part of your business. Consider how it changes, what customers do there and how quickly a fault needs attention.

Straightforward websites

Core Protection

For brochure and service websites with straightforward functionality. Covers routine upkeep, daily backups and regular oversight.

The maintenance essentials
  • WordPress core, plugin and theme updates.
  • Daily backups.
  • Uptime monitoring.
  • Monthly health checks and reporting.
When this makes sense

A service business with standard pages, a straightforward contact route and few integrations.

If bookings or complex forms are essential, consider the additional testing in Advanced.

More testing and priority support

Advanced Protection

For websites with more moving parts or greater dependence on enquiries and transactions. Adds testing before changes and closer checks on essential functions.

Everything in Core, plus
  • Staging environment update testing.
  • Form and checkout functionality checks.
  • WooCommerce compatibility monitoring.
  • Performance monitoring and alerting.
  • Priority support queue and security hardening review.
When this makes sense

A website with several enquiry forms, booking tools or integrations that need checking after changes.

You do not need an online shop to benefit from this level.

Sales and critical functions

Commercial Protection

For transactional websites where failed payments or unavailable functions directly interrupt the business. Adds closer payment oversight and priority handling of critical incidents.

Everything in Advanced, plus
  • Payment gateway monitoring.
  • Real-time uptime alerting.
  • Enhanced malware inspection.
  • Critical incident fast-track response.
  • Post-incident reinforcement.
When this makes sense

A store or membership website where failed payments interrupt trading or customer access.

That can include a specialist business with modest traffic but important transactions.

A missed enquiry, failed booking and unavailable checkout create different problems. Tell us which functions matter and we’ll help match the plan. Full prices and inclusions are available on our plans page.

Your monthly maintenance report

See what happened behind the scenes.

Your website can look exactly the same after a month of maintenance. The report makes that background activity visible, showing recorded updates, backups, performance measurements and monitoring information.

Update counts, with something to check against

The report records plugin and theme update counts for the reporting period. That gives you a record to refer to when discussing changes or investigating when a problem appeared.

These figures describe recorded updates. They do not represent every maintenance task or support conversation.

A record of your backups

You can see the available backup count, backup frequency and latest recorded backup date. Those details help you understand how recent the recorded copies are.

Backup records and a completed recovery test are different evidence. A backup count alone does not demonstrate a successful restore.

Performance beyond a single score

The report includes a PageSpeed score alongside loading and layout measurements. These show how quickly content appeared during testing and whether the page shifted as it loaded.

A recorded test gives useful context. Visitors using different devices and connections can have different experiences.

Security information with context

The example includes vulnerability monitoring frequency, SSL and domain monitoring, software versions and firewall activity. Its firewall breakdown identifies the types of requests blocked.

That distinction matters. A blocked request is not automatically a targeted attack or evidence that somebody nearly accessed your website.

This report recorded no plugin or theme updates, alongside daily backups and monitoring information. The figures are reproduced as reported.

This is a summary, not the original report layout. Measurements relate to this website and reporting period. Report coverage depends on the agreed services and configured monitoring.

A report should help you ask better questions.

If something looks unfamiliar, ask us what it means for your website. Share any faults you have noticed, too. A performance score cannot explain why a particular customer struggled to complete an order.

Why I built PressGuard

Your website should come with people you can rely on.

I’ve spent years running website and SEO businesses, alongside work in software and digital products. I kept seeing business owners left to coordinate developers, hosts and support whenever something went wrong.

I founded PressGuard to bring that work together. Our aim is to understand the website, take responsibility for the agreed work and remain involved after launch.

“I want our clients to have one team they can hold responsible. You should spend less of your working week thinking about your website.”

Choosing who looks after your website is a personal decision, too. Connect with me on LinkedIn and ask me anything about PressGuard or how we work.

WordPress maintenance questions

Before you hand over your website.

You may already have a host, a developer and a website with a few known quirks. These answers explain how maintenance fits around them.

Mention anything you currently work around, even if it seems minor. An occasional failed enquiry or payment is useful information when we review your website.

Who will look after my website?

PressGuard handles the maintenance and support covered by your agreement. Founder Joe York brings experience across website development, SEO and software, and remains involved in project work.

Your relationship is with PressGuard, with a clear contact route for questions, changes and support. We establish the website’s history, essential functions and existing suppliers during the handover.

What support am I actually buying?

Core covers routine updates, daily backups, uptime monitoring, monthly health checks and reporting. Advanced adds staging tests, functional checks and priority support. Commercial adds payment monitoring, deeper security inspection and critical incident priority.

Repair work and development requests need checking against your agreement. You can compare the full plan inclusions and prices or discuss a particular support requirement before choosing.

What happens if a WordPress update breaks my website?

We investigate what changed and which functions are affected. Recovery might involve reversing an update, resolving a conflict or restoring a suitable backup.

Restoring an entire database can overwrite orders, bookings or enquiries received after that backup. The recovery approach needs to account for those records. Testing and support arrangements depend on your selected plan.

Can you maintain a website built by another developer?

Yes, subject to an initial review. We check the existing setup, available access and known problems before agreeing the cover.

Custom code and licences supplied by the original developer need particular attention. Tell us if another developer will continue making changes, so maintenance can be coordinated around their work.

Do I need to move my hosting to PressGuard?

Usually, you can keep your current host. We review whether its access and technical setup support the agreed maintenance arrangements.

Some hosts include updates or backups, so we establish what they already provide. If hosting limitations affect the work, we explain the options before any move.

Can you help if my website is already hacked or broken?

Yes. Tell us about the problem when you enquire. An active infection or existing fault may require separate recovery work before ongoing maintenance begins.

We establish what needs attention and agree any separate work. If customers currently cannot use the website, contact emergency WordPress support and explain what has stopped working.

Does an older website need rebuilding before you can maintain it?

Not necessarily. Its condition matters more than its launch date. An older website may remain maintainable when its software is supported and its essential functions work reliably.

Abandoned plugins, incompatible software or recurring faults can change that assessment. Sometimes a specific component needs replacing. A rebuild becomes a separate discussion when the existing setup cannot reasonably support the business.

Does maintenance include new pages, design changes or additional features?

Your agreement defines what is included. New pages, redesigns and additional functionality need checking against that scope before work starts.

Adding a booking system involves different work from maintaining one already installed. Where a request needs separate work or purchases, we explain the scope and cost for approval.

How do I request help, and what determines its priority?

Use the support contact route agreed for your plan. Advanced Protection includes priority support, while Commercial Protection includes critical incident priority.

Include the affected page, what happened and whether customers can still enquire, book or pay. Response and resolution are different stages. A repair estimate may depend on investigating the cause first.

Does maintenance guarantee my website will never go down or get hacked?

No. Maintenance reduces avoidable risks and supports detection and recovery when problems occur. Hosting outages, new vulnerabilities and failures in connected services can still affect a maintained website.

Backups, controlled updates and monitoring each serve a different purpose. Your cover should reflect the functions your business depends on and the consequences of them failing.
